During the early parts of the BLM situation in 2020 there was a Black man on the news talking about his son who was about three at the time. His son was still in that running to daddy to give slobbery kisses phase, and it broke his heart every time because he knew one day he was going to have to have The Talk with his son, and break that joy.
We (white people, white women) hear The Talk and we think "birds and bees", but for a Black parent The Talk is teaching their child, particularly boys, how to be wary of police, how to act around them so they don't get hurt.
It was one of the most sobering moments of my life.
