swiper
Every time I hand over my debit card at a store, I feel just ever-so-slightly nervous. I do not know precisely why, but I do.
I've heard weird tales of what a cashier can do or find out by double-swiping your card, for example. The other thing that makes me nervous is when you hand over your card and for the cashier to swipe, and they hit the keys for you so that you don't get to "OK" the purchase cost yourself before proceeding, which means you don't know how much is actually coming off your account until you get the register tape after it's too late to do anything. That's only happened to me twice; one of them was just a couple of days ago.
I don't precisely trust the folks at that store to begin with, and this did not increase my meagre trust. They didn't try to rip me off, but there's always that chance someone will. Next time that happens I think I'll tell them to cancel the purchase and do it over.
