I was just talking with someone who used to work in the service industry, and I think I have to agree with him that at some point people stop being real people and turn into archetypes: they become representative of some one or other (mostly) unsavoury human personality quirk - and most of the time are completely unaware of how they appear to the outside world, nor do they care when aware.
