Operation Colour Me Snowy

2000-12-22

Snow, I said to myself, is white. Too white. Always white unless some nefarious animal's been by to do his business or a few day's worth of vehicles have skidded over it with mucky tires.

When the first snowfall of the year hit I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to change the evercontinuous whiteness of snow.

I spent much of the evening filling various bottles with water and different mixtures of fooddye; coming up with several different shades of blue, green, red, orange, pink, and purple. Then, during the afternoon hours of December 22, 2000, I went over to my friend Diane's house whilst everyone was out, and proceeded to paint her front lawn with the contents of the aforementioned bottles of dyed water.

It wasn't quite the success I was hoping for. I ran out of dye and water mix too soon, and there was no way for me to refill or melt snow down to use for more spritzing. However, now I'll know better for next time, and at least it partially worked.

I'd been hoping to do a nice cover up over the entire front yard, but I ended up just having to pour it in runnels down the shovelled up banks along the driveway and part way around the front of the house.

Note: Spraying didn't work as the water dissipates too quickly, taking all the colour with it.

Here's some pictorial evidence of the incident, including a picture proving that more dye may have gotten on me than on the snow! :>

The victim says that when she saw the pictures in her email she didn't realise it was her house, but when she pulled into her driveway she saw it and laughed out loud.

We can now consider Operation Colour-Me-Snowy to have been a success, despite the technical difficulties.
