objectivity

The idea that objectivity is an achievable state is something that we have to let go of, because it is not possible; much like it is impossible to perform a completely selfless act. In the end, no matter how altruistic you think you're being, you still get something out of it - whether that be satisfaction and a feel-good moment because you've done something generous, or some other thing - you still get something out of everything you do. This is not a wrong thing - we've just been taught to believe that doing things for gain is selfish, and that selfishness is evil, that we are somehow dirtied or cheapened by it. Not so.
